Installation view of Roy Lichtenstein: Like New (Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, October 11, 2026May 10, 2027).
NEW YORK, NY.- The Whitney Museum of American Art presents Roy Lichtenstein: Like New, opening October 11, 2026. This exhibition brings together over 130 works made from the early 1940s through the 1990s and offers a bold reconsideration of one of the defining artists of the Pop art movement and the twentieth century. Tracing Lichtenstein’s career-long investigation into duplication, perception, simulation, authorship, and image culture, Like New reveals an artist who understood that images are never fixed but instead continually copied, enlarged, circulated, and made new. Roy Lichtenstein changed the way we see images. Turning the visual language of mass-culture comics, advertising, consumer goods, and commercial printing into fine art, Lichtenstein produced works that looked cool, crisp, and machine-made but were meticulously handmade. Roy Lichtenstein: Like New looks beyond the artist’s iconic surfaces to trace how his early interest in perception and visual recognition shaped a career-l More

George Grosz, Eclipse of the Sun, 1926, oil on canvas. The Heckscher Museum of Art purchase.
HUNTINGTON, NY.- One hundred years after it was created, Eclipse of the Sun, the iconic 1926 painting by George Grosz, remains as politically and artistically powerful today as when Grosz painted it as a scathing critique of the Weimar Republic of Germany. Bristling with impactful symbolism and allegory, the masterpiece anchors a distinctive exhibition at The Heckscher Museum of Art where it stands as one of the most significant paintings in any public collection on Long Island. Eclipse of the Sun… More
BREGENZ.- Torkwase Dyson transforms the ground floor of Kunsthaus Bregenz into the setting of a space-filling architectural sculptural intervention. Two enormous black, sail-shaped elements divide Peter Zumthor’s hall-like architecture. Made of black wood, the sculpture seems to soar upward as light as a feather and strikingly divides the ground floor, like a barrier. These forms, which Dyson calls “hypershapes,” are rooted in the theory of Black Compositional Thought. They are an expression of… More

GRAZ.- How can we even recognize past violence for what it was if we remain at a distance from its present-day forms? Aflenz Memorial at the site of a former subcamp of the Mauthausen concentration camp near Leibnitz, Styria, has its starting point in the absence of visible traces of the camp and remembrance. After 1945, agricultural cultivation concealed the camp’s remains. Conceived as a walkable landscape, the memorial makes the camp’s dimensions tangible. Paths trace its former boundaries; the roll-call square and a p…

On a day like today, Italian painter Umberto Boccioni was born
Umberto Boccioni (19 October 1882 – 17 August 1916) was an influential Italian painter and sculptor. He helped shape the revolutionary aesthetic of the Futurism movement as one of its principal figures. Despite his short life, his approach to the dynamism of form and the deconstruction of solid mass guided artists long after his death. His works are held by many public art museums, and in 1988 the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City organized a major retrospective of 100 pieces. In this image: The City Rises, 1910.
